Chronicle - The Durutti Column - Final details

The Durutti Column album Chronicle is now in production. It will see the light of day in July 2014.

Available as a deluxe box package, it will be limited to 1050 copies as a two disc format with additional content in physical and digital content. It is the album that was previously announced (but will no longer be) a Record Store Day release. This package was carefully put together with some help from Daniel Mason who has worked on some great collaborations with releases including Joy Division, Primal Scream, Bjork and Brian Eno; to name a few.

In more detail...

1) Two Compact Discs of Music.

This is essentially the tracks which were commissioned for the Bridgewater Hall show in Manchester way back when... Additionally; Vini has worked with Caoilfhionn Rose Birley on a few titles and also revived 'Dry' (DRY ON THE ROCKS) and 'The Final Cut' (JUAN MONTERO & THE DRUM).

2) Booklet

Contains photographs taken by Vini over his life including friends, family, people he has worked with and Red Kites (Milvus milvus). Bruce Mitchell has provided a background to the project; how it came about, the brief and where it ended up in the form of an essay.

3) Certificate

Each copy comes with a foil blocked certificate

4) Map

Every copy will have a random map. It will be a small part of Manchester detailing a location linked to his life. There are six in total and the mail order ones only will have all six.

5) Bonus Material In a Digital Format

And there is plenty of it! The third compact disc wallet will house a special insert. This will supply the unique download code required to access:

Live tracks - from the last shows - unreleased

Music stems from A Paean to Wilson - mix your own version

Mike Mitchell's extensive details of the band's live performances

More unseen photographs from Vini's personal collection

Press and promotional images of the band from the 1980's to the present.

Accounts from fans and admirers of the artist.

This will all be housed in a custom-made box covered in claret coloured fabric.

Two hundred copies will be available mail order from kooky and will feature all six maps and an additional couple of badges.

This will be sold to independent shops first and foremost. Whilst we could not get it out for Record Store Day we would still like you to be able to go to a shop and buy it.

I hope it will all be ready for the SOLD OUT Dave Haslam Q&A and music event on the 21st May which is part of the 2014 Chorlton Arts Festival. I am unsure if I can sell them there but I will let you know as soon as I do.

Many many many thanks to all the individuals who have taken the time and effort to keep asking about how when where and why this album is going.... I hope also that those who were concerned about availability outside of RSD can all get one.

  1. Sounds like it will be worth the wait. Thanks for the update.

  2. This sounds great, put me down for one!!

  3. Very much looking forward to my copy.

  5. What are the options for those of us in the U.S.? Will it be in indie shops over here, or do we only have the option of picking it up here? If so, when will it be up for purchase?

    1. It will be distributed through indies in the states

  6. There aren't any indies in my neck of the woods,
As above, when approximately will this be available here?
Will it be a pre-order or upon release date ?
Thanks Phil & thanks for all involved getting this to final production.

  7. Just can't wait, since seeing Vini for the first time in 82, I have been trying to get my hands on as much DC as possible.

  8. Phil,
Do you know if this will be licensed to Japan post release like the first 3 on SHM cd
which came out a couple years ago (with photos/booklet) ?
This is tremendous news that it is near, thanks for a reply
